Often, we find that clients who come to us seeking a story actually have too many stories – or fragments of stories, at least – and what they really need is one great story. We draw out their stories, finding more along the way. Often they fall into three categories – origin, impact and vision. That is, where you come from, what you’re doing, and where you’re going.
Stories do not exist in a vacuum – they live in the spaces between people. Thus, our process is always collaborative. As much as we live and breathe stories, the story we are looking for is your story.
BEFORE DISCOVERING THAT SPARK…
Somewhere along the line, we discover the spark of a story, a glowing gem that is simple enough to be accessible and complex enough to be intriguing. Within that spark is the basis for something that will resonate with you and all your audiences, and it is from this that we begin to build your core story. We keep working at it and polishing it until the story becomes something easily told and retellable – the true measure of a great story. Then we work with you to make sure you can tell it in a powerful, meaningful way.
Once you have a great core story, it is as malleable as gold. It can be adapted into a movie, a social media campaign, web site copy, and can inform various branding outputs – there are plenty of places to tell it. But it is essential to understand the true test to your story. Your story is something you can tell, person to person, around a fire.
